👵👴 Dear Mom & Dad 16: This is what you'll never know

Dear friend,

I'll keep this week short because I've been at a conference these last few days. I'm physically exhausted but spiritually exhilarated!

I'm excited to share that Parents Are Human is now in several museum gift shops around the country, so I've been exhibiting at the annual Museum Store Association's conference. So many more updates to come :)

1. 💡 Reminder: This Is What You’ll Never Know

One of the most frequent questions I get is about how my parents responded to me when I asked to give them a hug, made up to them over the phone, and asked to play Parents Are Human.

I never expected their responses.

It took me a while to realize that's probably because I did something completely new, and when we do something new, we can never really know for sure how our loved ones will respond.

I asked a question I never asked before, did an activity that I'd never initiated before, and said "I love you" when I never said it before over the phone.

We won't know, with 100% certainty, how people will respond when we show up differently until we actually do.

When we stop ourselves from taking action because we've already made up our minds about how we think the other person's going to respond, we often rob ourselves of the opportunity for something extraordinary from happening.

So this is your reminder to tell your loved ones you love them. Go hug them. Ask them a brand new question.

Be prepared to be surprised.
